The favorite holiday destinations of the French

Many French people break the monotony of everyday life by taking a spring break. Some of them prefer stays in France, while the others plan to visit a European country or go even further.

The favorite destinations of the French in France

For their spring break, the French choose Brittany first. Spring, often early, allows you to enjoy the sea air and the beaches of a varied coastline. The diversity of a tormented nature, from the bay of Quiberon to the forest of Brocéliande, and the richness of a thousand-year-old historical heritage explain the priority given to the region.

Loyal to stations like Tignes or Val Thorens, the French also remain faithful to the Alps which still offer skiers, in this period, their snowy slopes. Then comes the Côte d’Azur, whose sunny coastline still attracts holidaymakers. Even if, in the spring, the cicadas do not sing yet, the so pure light of the South already bathes the region. From the Gulf of Saint-Tropez to the Baie des Anges, via the Massif des Maures or the red lands of the Estérel, holidaymakers are spoiled for choice.

These spring holidays, other French people prefer to spend them in Normandy. Some like to stroll on the famous boardwalk of Deauville or rediscover the memory of Proust at the Grand Hotel de Cabourg. At low tide, you can walk on beaches that seem to stretch to the horizon. Others prefer to visit Rouen Cathedral or admire the famous Bayeux Tapestry.

In fifth position in this ranking of French destinations acclaimed by the French, we find the department of Hérault. Sunbathing on one of the many beaches on the coast, descending the Hérault gorges in a kayak or strolling on the Place de la Comédie in Montpellier, these are some of the possibilities, among others, to seduce many holidaymakers.

The favorite destinations of the French in Europe

Outside of France, many French people have planned to spend their spring break in a European country. And they preferably choose neighboring countries.

Spain is indeed their first choice. Spending your spring break there, by taking a Spain vacation rental, allows you to enjoy a mild and temperate climate. Vacationers can thus visit the Alhambra in Granada or the Moorish-style colonnades of the cathedral in Cordoba without suffocating in the scorching heat. The beaches of the Costa Brava and a visit to the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona also promise good times with the family. And, during a stay in Madrid, you can start by tasting a paella on the emblematic Plaza Mayor.

In spring, it is also good to live in Italy. This destination is also very popular with the French. The Duomo in Florence and the Plaza Del Campo in Tuscany, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Trevi Fountain in Rome, or the famous St. Mark’s Square in Venice are just some of the places to visit.

Other European countries still share the favor of the French. Their wanderlust takes them to Great Britain, the Czech Republic and even Portugal. They like to discover, in the spring, the Tower of London and Trafalgar Square, Saint-Charles Bridge and Prague Castle or even the steep streets of Lisbon, traversed in a rickety tram.

The favorite destinations of the French in the world

The spring holidays come, the French are in a hurry to get out of winter. To hasten the arrival of fine weather, they sometimes opt for countries which, in order not to be too far away, benefit from a milder climate. Therefore, what better way to forget your daily worries than to relax on a beach of Tunisia or Crete ? Well rested, holidaymakers can also admire the prestigious ruins of Carthage, in Tunisia, or the remains of the palace of Knossos, in Crete.

The constant and very temperate climate of the Canary Islands also attracts spring vacationers. Lovers of surfing or walks in lush forests appreciate this flower-filled country, where the sea breeze maintains a mild temperature.

Two more distant destinations are also popular with French travellers, the Dominican Republic and Mauritius. In both countries, the tropical climate maintains fairly constant temperatures throughout the year. In spring, it feels like living there as in summer.

The beaches of the Dominican Republic are among the most beautiful in the Caribbean. It is the ideal place to see whales evolve or admire the underwater fauna. From the window of the plane, Mauritius extends the green lines of its sugar cane fields, among which stand, here and there, volcanic peaks. The coastline offers marvelous fine sandy beaches and crystal clear lagoons, protected by a coral reef. The tropical garden of Pamplemousses or the earth of the seven colors, in Chamarel, are so many ideas for excursions for spring vacationers.
